September 2021 FAQs
Important health information
In alignment with the public health guidance issued for the city of Boston, Northeastern’s COVID 19 protocols for events, including our CPS Master’s Graduation, will include adhering to the indoor mask mandate. To safeguard the health and wellness of the Northeastern community, the university will require students, faculty, staff, visitors, and vendors to wear masks indoors—regardless of vaccination status.
Visitors must remain away from campus if they feel sick, have tested positive, or believe they may have been exposed to COVID-19. All visitors will be required to adhere to Northeastern face-covering requirements and practice six-feet physical distancing where possible, if unvaccinated. All visitors must comply with federal, state and local guidelines and/or regulations.
It is the responsibility of each graduate and their guests to ensure that they have masks for the event and any non-vaccinated guests to practice six-feet physical distancing, where possible. All graduates are expected to check the Northeastern COVID 19 guidelines prior to attending graduation and to follow the guidelines outlined.
As always, Northeastern University will continue to monitor health and safety conditions and adapt our event protocols based on local public health conditions and scientific expertise. Thank you for your flexibility and for taking these measures to protect the health of the Northeastern community and our guests.
Why is there a ceremony in September? Who should attend?
The College of Professional Studies is offering two opportunities for graduate students to participate in a graduation ceremony each calendar year because of the increased number of graduates and the various times of year when students complete their studies.
Master’s degree candidates completing degree requirements in Spring 2021 and Summer 2021 will be eligible to attend the September 2021 ceremony. The September 2021 ceremony is for master’s students only. Bachelor’s and doctoral candidates will not be participating in the September 10, 2021 ceremony. Master’s students completing degree requirements in Fall 2020 and Winter 2021 were eligible to attend the May 8, 2021 ceremony. Please see your academic advisor or click here for apply to graduate details and dates.

According to the U.S. Department of State, letters of invitation are neither required nor useful in helping someone apply for a B class visitor visa to come to the United States. While the OGS does not issue letters of invitation themselves, they do provide recommendations that may assist your friends or family in obtaining a visitor visa to the U.S.
Please visit the OGS on this matter for more information.
