Joan Lehoullier



Dr. Joan Lehoullier is an adjunct faculty member in the Master of Sports Leadership program. She brings over 30 years of athletic administration experience into the classroom. 

She spent 21 years working in the UMass Lowell Athletic Department, having been named Senior Associate Athletic Director in 1997. Lehoullier began her tenure on the River Hawk staff in 1993 as the Director of Recreational Sports before being named Assistant Athletic Director in 1995.

Lehoullier spearheaded the development of the student-athletes off the playing field, oversaw the NCAA Life Skills Program at UML, community service initiatives, and served as the advisor to the UML Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC). During her time at UMass Lowell, Lehoullier developed and taught the life skills course for first-year student-athletes. Lehoullier oversaw NCAA compliance, student-athlete development, community service initiatives and also acted as the advisor to the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC). She also oversaw many of the UML sports programs and managed internal operations.  As the Senior Woman Administrator she created and facilitated the University’s Gender Equity plan. 

At the national level, Lehoullier served as a longtime member of the CHAMPS/Lifeskills Advisory Committee and was appointed to the faculty at the NCAA National Student-Athlete Leadership Conferences in 2000 and 2001. She also volunteered as a team orientation leader and presenter at the NCAA Life Skills orientation program for new institutional members in 1998 and 1999.

She received her Bachelor of Science in Physical Education from Westfield State University, and earned her Master’s in Physical Education from Eastern Illinois University.  She earned an Ed.D in Educational Leadership from UMass Lowell in 2007.
