Vice President of Research Compliance & Regulatory Affairs at Children's Hospital of Philadelphia

As a member of the Research Institute’s executive leadership team, Matthew Hodgson leads the research compliance program at Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia and is responsible for developing and implementing the strategy for the research-related regulatory, compliance, and safety programs across all types of research including human, animal, and laboratory-based. He also serves as the Institutional Official for the human research protection program, the animal care and use program, and the laboratory safety program.

The research compliance program includes the offices supporting the IRB, IACUC, and IBC committees; the Office of Research Safety; the Office of Research Compliance; the Shipping Core; the policy and procedure documentation program; the animal post-approval monitoring program; the research quality assurance and monitoring programs including clinical research billing compliance; the export control and foreign national screening program; the controlled substances program; and other enterprise research compliance activities.

Matthew leads the Research Institute’s risk assessment process as part of the Enterprise Risk Management program. He prioritizes resources and activities necessary to evaluate appropriate implementation of risk management plans as part of the annual compliance plan.

Having responsibility for compliance across the Research Institute, Matthew supports the Research Integrity Officer with research misconduct cases, leads internal investigations of compliance concerns, and ensures continued accreditation from AAHRPP and AAALAC International.
