New Research Examines Impact of AI in HR
The Center for the Future of Higher Education and Talent Strategy (CFHETS) recently published a compelling study on the impact of AI on hiring and talent management. Analyzing AI as a “collaborator, agent, and revolutionary” the report examines the impact of AI on HR practices, based on interviews with 20 HR leaders and technology developers.
It identifies three main roles for AI in HR:
- Collaborator: AI assists with tasks like summarizing meetings and drafting offer letters, acting as a junior employee. This raises questions about how entry-level workers will gain experience in the future.
- Agent: AI automates routine processes such as candidate screening and employee onboarding. HR leaders are considering AI agents as team members, alongside human employees. This shift emphasizes the need to clearly define and assess human contributions.
- Revolutionary: AI has the potential to transform hiring and talent management by replacing the traditional role-filling model with a more holistic approach. This involves mapping individuals to ideal opportunities within a landscape of possibilities.
The report highlights the need for better data collection and management to support these AI applications. It also notes the emergence of solutions that gather behavioral data from work systems and repositories to create more comprehensive profiles of individuals and work requirements.
As the integration of AI in all aspects of business practices continues to unfold, CFHETs researchers are on the front lines of better understanding the challenges and opportunities AI brings to core functions such as HR.
