Jamaican Prime Minister Andrew Holness has earned a Doctor of Law and Policy degree from Northeastern University, marking a significant academic achievement while serving in office. He received his degree during the university’s commencement ceremony on May 1, 2025, in Boston.
Holness’s dissertation, titled “From the States to the Streets: The Impact of U.S. Gun Laws on Gun Violence in Jamaica,” examines how American firearm legislation influences the illegal arms trade and contributes to violence in Jamaica. His research aims to inform more effective policy responses to gun-related crime in the country.
Reflecting on his academic journey, Holness emphasized the value of higher education in providing broader perspectives on complex issues.
