Overview

Northeastern’s Bachelor of Science in Biological Science program is designed for students who wish to pursue a science-based career or continue their education by obtaining a graduate degree in a health- or science-related field.

The integrated curriculum includes core classes in general biology, microbiology, genetics and molecular biology, cell biology, biochemistry, general and organic chemistry, analytical chemistry and physics.

Students can also tailor their learning experience by choosing from targeted electives - including anatomy and physiology, immunology,   bioprocessing, genomics, proteomics, and bioinformatics, quality control and validation, and more.

Through courses, research, and experiential learning students who complete this bachelor’s program are well prepared for graduate school or employment in research labs, biotech companies, biotech startups, nonprofits, and more.

Program objectives

  • Build specialized knowledge of biological chemistry, cellular processes, genetic inheritance, organismal form and function, and evolution.
  • Demonstrate understanding of the genetic and evolutionary processes responsible for organismal morphology and function.
  • Develop the intellectual skills to apply the scientific method to understand biological mechanisms.
  • Be able to present the relevancy of biological research and knowledge from local, national, and global perspectives.
