Where are you from, or where do you consider home?
I’m from Zhengzhou, in Henan Province, China.
Three words to describe your experience at Northeastern:
Growth. Fulfillment. Self-Discipline.
What motivated you to continue through challenging times?
I believe my strong sense of self-discipline was the key to overcoming the challenges I faced along my journey at Northeastern. When I set a goal, I am entirely willing to grit my teeth and push through the difficulties to achieve it. It’s the same mindset I apply to my personal life, including my current commitment to running three to five kilometers every single day to reach my fitness goals. The approach doesn’t change whether I’m in the classroom or on the road.
What has your journey revealed to you about yourself?
My journey at Northeastern revealed my deep focus for scientific research. I discovered a strong willingness to dedicate extensive time and energy to delving into complex problems in order to achieve my goals. Ultimately, this drive and commitment to the research process is what inspired my decision to pursue a PhD.
Experiential learning is a core component of a Northeastern education. Describe some of the highlights for you.
Northeastern’s experiential learning model provided me with invaluable hands-on experience that perfectly bridged theory and practice. A major highlight was the ability to apply classroom concepts directly to complex research projects. This approach gave me substantial practical experience in problem-solving, which I’m confident will be incredibly beneficial for my upcoming PhD research and my long-term career.
Where do you imagine yourself five years from now?
While it’s difficult to predict the future with absolute certainty, my clear aspiration is to secure a faculty position at a university. Five years from now, I imagine myself completing my doctoral training and transitioning into academia as a researcher and professor, leading my own research lab, mentoring students, and contributing meaningful advancements to the scientific community.
My journey at Northeastern revealed my deep focus for scientific research and a willingness to dedicate myself fully to complex problems, a drive that ultimately inspires me to eventually pursue a PhD.
