Bio:

Lydia R. L. Young is the Associate Dean of Academic & Faculty Affairs for the Graduate School of Education and an Associate Teaching Professor in the Graduate Programs in Education. She leads the academic and administrative functions of the Graduate School of Education, including NExT, the EdD, Masters degrees in education, and teacher preparation. In her pedagogical practice and curriculum development, Dr. Young explores critical literacy, fostering teacher candidates as change agents, constructivism, and experiential learning and teaching. Dr. Young envisions NExT as the next step in education – combining academics and deeply embedded experiential learning opportunities for educators, regardless of context and systemic barriers, allowing equity gaps to be directly addressed by school and teacher leaders who join NExT as scholar-practitioners & change agents. NExT links educators from across the globe as they document learning, connect scholars and practitioners, and impact learning as we develop a lexicon of experiential education.

Previously, Dr. Young served as the director of field placement and as the director for the Masters degrees in education. She also worked with the Boston Public Schools Office of College and Career Connections, the College Bound Program at Boston College, and served as a literacy consultant to small and technical high schools. Prior to working in higher education, she taught secondary English.
