College of Professional Studies graduate students listened to Salcheto winery owner Michele Manelli describe the environmental and energy improvements he instituted to make his wine sustainable.
The team was asked by the winery, located in Montepulciano, Italy, to report on the market for sustainably produced wine in the United States, and to assess the firm’s current popularity, marketing, and promotional strategies. In preparation, the team researched the California Sustainable Winegrowing Alliance, and interviewed numerous U.S. wine experts.
The team is one of four who participated in this summer’s International Field Study Experience, an online capstone course taught by Dr. Marissa Lombardi that culminated last week in Italy. The program offered students the chance to serve as consultants to Italian industries on the theme of sustainability.
