Overview
Northeastern’s Master of Arts in Teaching prepares you to become an effective, equity-minded K–12 educator. You’ll gain practical instructional strategies while learning to address systemic inequities and support diverse learners and communities.
Licensure Pathway
The program aligns with Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE) requirements, integrating coursework, gateway performance tasks, pre-practicum experiences, and a full student-teaching practicum. Graduates are endorsed for initial Massachusetts teacher licensure in their selected concentration.

Concentrations
- Elementary Education (Grades 1–6): Build a strong foundation in child development, curriculum, and inclusive classroom practice.
- Secondary Education: Build a strong foundation in child development, curriculum, and inclusive classroom practice.
- Grades 5–12: English, History, Social Sciences, Political Science
- Grades 8–12: Mathematics, Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Earth/Space Science
- English as a Second Language (PreK–8 or 5–12): Develop field experience to meet the growing need for licensed ESL teachers.

This is an estimate based on the tuition rates for Academic Year 2025-2026 and does not include any fees or other expenses. Some courses and labs have tuition rates that may increase or decrease total tuition. Tuition and fees are subject to revision by the president and Board of Trustees at any time. Select programs at select campuses offer additional scholarships of up to 25% off the listed price for domestic students studying on campus. For students interested in pursuing financial assistance or educational loans, additional educational costs, known as Cost of Attendance (COA) components, can be included in the calculation of aid and loan eligibility. Components may include food, housing, books, course materials, supplies, equipment, transportation, personal expenses, and the cost of obtaining a first professional licensure.
