
Biography
Dr. Amanda Welsh serves as Professor of the Practice in the Doctor of Law and Policy program and Associate Dean for Workforce and Economic Development at Northeastern University. As Director of the Workforce Transformation Lab, she researches technology’s role in connecting people to opportunities, while also supporting the Burnes Center for Social Change in leveraging skills tech and GenAI to validate workforce training impact.
With 25+ years at the intersection of data and behavior, Dr. Welsh‘s career spans entrepreneurship and executive leadership. She co-founded Garageband.com (acquired by MySpace), pioneering internet crowd-sourcing for unsigned musicians, and founded Integrated Media Measurement Inc. (acquired by Arbitron), developing mobile-based research platforms for major media clients. Before Northeastern, she held executive positions at Nielsen, building a mobile consumer behavior think tank and leading data science initiatives across three continents, and worked as a Media Research Scientist at Google. Her commitment to social impact includes serving as Executive Director of The Foundation for Scholarly Culture, board membership with Raising a Reader, and leading Nielsen’s pro-bono project with the World Food Programme. Dr. Welsh holds a Ph.D. and Master’s from Harvard University and a BFA from NYU.
