Michael Madden

Doctor of Medical Science in Healthcare Leadership

2026 Graduate

Where are you from, or where do you consider home?

Ireland.

Three words to describe your experience at Northeastern:

Innovative, experiential, global.

What motivated you to continue through challenging times in obtaining your degree?

Knowing that I would continue my learning and graduate with a degree from a world-class university.

What has your journey revealed to you about yourself?

That life gives you many opportunities, and that anything is possible when you commit to the work, remain patient, and persevere. There are no shortcuts to meaningful growth, but Northeastern has shown me how opportunities become available when I am willing to learn, challenge myself, and keep moving forward.

Experiential learning is a core component of a Northeastern education. Describe some of the highlights for you.

One of the highlights of experiential learning at Northeastern is that I can immediately bring what I learn into my work as a senior project manager at Bouvé College of Health Sciences. I also apply it in my teaching in the Graduate Project Management program at CPS, where I can give students real-world examples from projects I have managed in financial services, healthcare, and higher education.

I think that makes me a Quintuple Husky: Graduate, Staff, Faculty, Student, and Parent.

Where do you imagine yourself five years from now?

In five years, I see myself continuing to grow as a leader at Northeastern, managing complex projects that make a meaningful impact at Bouvé and across the university. I also hope to continue teaching and mentoring graduate project management students, using my experience in financial services, healthcare, and higher education to help prepare them for real-world challenges.

What advice would you give to current and future Huskies?

My advice to recent graduates is to be patient, put what you have learned into practice, and never forget the basics. The workplace is dynamic and constantly changing, so remain adaptable, keep building your skills, and commit to being a lifelong learner.

Is there anything else you wanted to say that we didn’t cover?

I am a graduate of CPS, but back when I got my undergraduate degree in 1995, it was called University College. I earned my BS in Business Administration with a major in Accountancy. I now have the privilege of teaching classes in the same building where I took my classes in the early ’90s: Ryder Hall.

Today I work full time as a senior project manager in Bouvé College of Health Sciences. I also graduated again from Northeastern in April 2026 with a DMSc (Doctor of Medical Science in Healthcare Leadership). I am an adjunct instructor with CPS in the Graduate Project Management program, I am a student once again, pursuing the Graduate Certificate in AI Applications, and I am the proud dad of my daughter Charlotte, who is in her second year at Bouvé in the BA in Public Health program.

I think that makes me a Quintuple Husky: Graduate, Staff, Faculty, Student, and Parent.
