About

Carl Zangerl is the Faculty Director for Graduate Communication and Human Resources Management programs and the Lead Faculty for the Master of Science in Corporate and Organizational Communication. In addition to assuring the delivery of a top-notch learning experience for students, he teaches courses in communication assessment, strategic messaging and communication networks, and the program's experiential capstone course. He has been nominated by students for the College's Teaching Excellence Award several times over the past ten years and received the award in 2007.

Dr. Zangerl is the coauthor (with Dick Harris) of several articles on meeting facilitation, organizational assessment, and meeting effectiveness. He served as the vice president of professional development for the Boston Chapter of the International Association of Business Communicators for three years, and was a judge for the Public Relations Society of America’s 2012 Silver Anvil Awards. He recently served on a committee of the Global Communication Certification Council to develop the examination for the Strategic Communication Management Professional certification.

Before joining the full-time faculty in 2009, Dr. Zangerl was a principal of ZHC Partners, a strategic planning and communication firm, and the director of field and executive communications at New England Financial/MetLife. Prior to a 23-year corporate career as a speechwriter, strategic planner, and facilitator, he taught at Stanford University and Purdue University, and he was the chief of staff to the dean of the College of Arts and Sciences at New York University.

Carl Zangerl earned his BS in History, summa cum laude and Phi Beta Kappa from the University of Illinois, MA in History from the University of Michigan, PhD in Modern German History from the University of Illinois, and Master's in Public Administration from New York University.
