Biography
Dr. Karaoglu Serce has been a lecturer at the College of Professional Studies, teaching sociology courses since 2008. Her goal as an instructor is to inspire students with a strong capacity for critical analysis and a socially aware global perspective. She served as a research associate for the Globalization and Climate Justice group at the Northeastern Environmental Justice Research Collaborative.
She has academic and community-based experience in the field of sociology, mainly environmental sociology, unequal ecological trade, political sociology, social movements, energy, and climate change. One of her book reviews (with Daniel Faber) appeared in Mobilization: An International Quarterly Journal for Power, Justice, and the Environment: A Critical Appraisal of the Environmental Justice Movement by D. Pellow and R. Brulle (eds.), 2006. She is a contributing author of Ask the Expert: Community-Based Agriculture section of Health and Populations Chapter in SociologicalYou: NextGen Introductory Sociology (Thompson, A. and K. Whitworth. Fort Worth, TX: United Instructors and Textbook Authors Co-op, 2017).
She earned her Ph.D. in Sociology from Northeastern University, Department of Sociology & Anthropology, an M.S. degree in Nonprofit Management from Worcester State University, and an M.A. degree in International Development and Social Change from Clark University.
