Rainforest Scully-Blaker, Ph.D

Assistant Teaching Professor

Rainforest Scully-Blaker is an Assistant Teaching Professor for the Master of Professional Studies in Digital Media program at Northeastern University’s Vancouver Campus. He also maintains affiliations with both the Intersectional Tech Lab at the University of Michigan and the Institute for Research on Digital Literacies at York University.

Education

Ph.D. and MS in Informatics from UC Irvine (2022)
MA in Media Studies from Concordia University (2016)

Professional Experience

Prior to working at Northeastern University, Scully-Blaker held positions as a Research Associate at the University of Michigan, a Postdoctoral Research Fellow in the Centre of Excellence for Game Culture Studies at Tampere University (Finland), and as a Lecturer in Game Design at Uppsala University’s Gotland Campus (Sweden).

Scully-Blaker’s research and teaching expertise span multiple disciplines, including informatics, game design, and media studies. His first monograph, Gaming Exhaustion, is being published by Duke University Press and will be available April 2027.
