Challenging, Fun, and Rewarding
Three words that encapsulate Josh’s Northeastern University experience.
Please provide 3 words that encapsulate your Northeastern University experience:
Challenging, fun, and rewarding
What has your journey at Northeastern University revealed to you about yourself?
I feel that my journey at NU has taught me a lot about my own resilience. Despite encountering setbacks due to health and the pandemic, I have been able to bounce back and return to NU to finish my degree. The resilience that I have developed here is definitely going to help me move forward, and something that I hope to help others develop during my career as a mental health therapist.
What motivated you to continue through challenging times in obtaining your degree?
All the future clients that I hope to help in my career as therapist.
Experiential learning is a core component of a Northeastern education. Describe some of the highlights for you.
I have been able to work with adults on the spectrum in San Diego, high schoolers with special education needs in Massachusetts, and will be working with young adults with disabilities in Hawaii this summer. I have volunteered at and afterschool woodworking program for middle and high schoolers all throughout my time at NU, and I have been able to work with teens through my church. I have gained so much hands-on experience working with some really diverse populations during my time as a student at NU, and all of it has been a gift!
Where do you imagine yourself five years from now?
Five years from now, I imagine myself working with young adults to help them navigate their mental health challenges as a mental health therapist. Oh, and I can’t forget having a goldendoodle to be my therapeutic sidekick during sessions. Ideally, I would love to integrate nature into my practice as well, so maybe I’ll get into doing some surf therapy.
Is there anything else you wanted to say that we didn’t cover?
The only other thing that I want to say is thank you to all of the people who have helped me make it to today. I am deeply grateful for all the family, friends, professors, and chance encounters with strangers that have encouraged and supported me along the journey.
