Sayali Sudhir Shinde
MPS Analytics’25
Business Analyst Co-op at Tobin Scientific

One of the challenges I faced during my co-op was learning how to effectively prioritize my tasks and set boundaries when necessary. In a fast-paced work environment, it’s easy to feel that every request is equally urgent, and initially, I found myself trying to work on everything at the same time. Over time, I realized that this approach could lead to decreased efficiency. Learning to prioritize meant assessing the urgency and impact of each task, understanding the expectations of my team, and making informed decisions about what to tackle first.

I communicated proactively with my mentor and team, discussing priorities, and seeking guidance when multiple tasks conflicted. This not only helped me manage expectations but also ensured that my efforts were aligned with the team’s objectives.

I also practiced setting boundaries thoughtfully. When I received tasks outside my scope, I evaluated whether taking them on would contribute to my learning or risk overloading me. If necessary, I respectfully explained my capacity and proposed alternative timelines or support.
