About

Matt Carrano is an interaction designer, visual artist, and Lecturer in Digital Media program at Northeastern University. Over the past 25 years, Matt has worked as an engineer, manager, user experience designer, and consultant for leading companies including IBM, Wang Laboratories, and the Eastman Kodak Company and is currently at Senior Interaction Designer at Red Hat. He holds a BS in Electrical Engineering from Syracuse University, and an MA in Technology Strategy and Policy from Boston University.

After working in a variety of engineering roles, Matt developed a keen interest in how average people related to advanced technology, which led him to pursue a career in usability and user experience design. His current interests include user-centered design process, modular design systems, and the relationship between software engineering and creative practice. He is the former president and founder of Somerville Open Studios, a Boston-area arts nonprofit organization, and exhibits his drawings and paintings in a variety of local venues.
