Location and Timing
The College of Professional Studies Doctoral Hooding Ceremony will take place on Thursday, May 9, 2019, from 10:30 AM - 12:30 PM at Matthews Arena, 238-262 St. Botolph Street, Boston, MA 02115. A reception will immediately follow the ceremony.
The doctoral hooding ceremony is a special, intimate ceremony with a celebratory reception specifically designed for doctoral students. Doctoral students will not be able to attend the Friday, May 10 ceremony due to the unprecedented number of graduates.
Arrival Time for Graduates
Check in for graduates will take place at 9:00 AM in the Matthews Arena parking lot. Failure to check in may result in your exclusion from the ceremony.
Doctoral candidates will receive academic regalia (cap-mortarboard, tassel, gown, and hood) that are provided at no cost and may be kept as a memento of the occasion.
Regalia pickup days will take place Saturday, 5/4/19, 11:00 a.m.-4:00 p.m. and Monday, 5/6/19, 11:00 a.m.-4:00 p.m. at Matthews Arena, 238-262 St. Botolph Street, Boston, MA. Students unable to attend regalia pickup days will be able to retrieve their regalia the morning of the ceremony starting at 9:00 a.m. in tents behind the arena.
A reception will be held immediately following the ceremony from 12:30 until 1:00 PM at Matthews Arena.
Parking and Transportation
Complimentary parking for the ceremony is available in the Columbus Garage (795 Columbus Avenue, Boston) and West Village Parking Garage (10 Leon Street, Boston). The garages are a considerable walk from Matthews Arena. If your guest has a mobility issue, it is advisable that you provide a wheelchair and/or drop off your guest at the Arena with an escort prior to parking. Parking is handled on a first come first served basis.
Number of guests
Each graduate is invited to bring six guests to the hooding ceremony. Doors will open for guests at 9:00 AM.
A professional photographer will be available at the ceremony to take photographs of you in your official NU academic regalia. The photographer will mail proofs, with information on ordering photos, to all degree candidates following the ceremony.
This ceremony is exclusively for eligible Doctoral Candidates. Your faculty adviser will present you with your Doctoral Hood at the ceremony.
