In the 19th and early 20th century, Europeans branded China “the Sick  Man of Asia” and for over a century called Turkey “the Sick Man of Europe.” Today, however, these and other activated players are better  characterized as the “Striving States of the East”, the contributors to  the emerging multi-polar world.
