About
Ed Powers is Program Lead for the Master of Science in Corporate and Organizational Communication (MSCOC) program. He guides the program to provide learning experiences that enable students to start and grow their careers as professional communicators. Dr. Powers places a heavy emphasis on experiential learning opportunities linked to classwork so students can gain real world experience. In a related way, he is a strong believer in activities outside the classroom that provide a safe environment for students to try out different communications roles.
Dr. Powers brings more than 25 years of industry experience in corporate communications to his role. His background includes having been Vice President of Corporate Communications at three major companies – National Grid USA, Sappi Fine Paper North America, and Raytheon Engineers & Constructors. In these positions, he was responsible for the strategic direction and day-to-day operation of the companies' communications programs. Earlier, Dr. Powers served as Director of Media Relations at Raytheon Company. Just prior to joining Northeastern, he was Department Head, Communications Products and Editorial Services at The MITRE Corporation, where he was responsible for key internal and external communications channels and writing and editing support for the company’s seven operating centers. He oversaw a team of 40 staff that won 10 professional awards between 2012 and 2017.
