Northeastern Joins Center for Research Libraries

Beginning next spring, Northeastern researchers will be able to explore the holdings of a major research collection: the Center for Research Libraries.

As a member institution of the Center for Research Libraries (CRL), Northeastern University gains a rich and valuable auxiliary library of collections to support research and learning at the faculty, graduate and undergraduate levels. CRL collects and makes available important and rare collections of primary source materials, as well as thousands of foreign dissertations, historical journals, and newspapers from around the world.

The collections are so varied as to include an unpublished manuscript music collection from Oxford, the vast engineering library of Linda Hall, and rare monograph and pamphlet area collections from various regions of the world. For example, the Sutro Library Mexican collection includes over 3,000 titles from the 1500-1900 time period, covering cultural, economic, political, religious, and social themes in Mexican history.

These collections are made available in print, in microfilm, and, in many cases, online. Faculty, students, and staff are eligible to borrow resources through an extended delivery system or, when available, through electronic delivery or online.

The Center for Research Libraries collections will become available early in the spring 2013 term. At that time, information about how to search, identify and request materials will be made available.

By becoming a member of the Center for Research Libraries, the Northeastern University Libraries continue to make important strides to provide the rich and pertinent primary source collections that support research at the faculty, graduate, and advanced undergraduate levels.

The Northeastern University Libraries support the mission of the University by working in partnership with the University community to develop and disseminate new scholarship. The Library fosters intellectual and professional growth, enriches the research, teaching, and learning environment, and promotes the effective use of knowledge by managing and delivering information resources and services to library users.
