Interdisciplinary Team at CPS Explores Generative AI Integration in Higher Ed
Mamta Saxena, Joseph Reilly, Michelle Rego, Ilka Kostka, and Daniel Serig co-authored a newly published article examining how generative AI is being integrated into higher education. The team’s piece, “From GenAI Experimentation to Integration: Vignettes in Teaching, Learning, and Assessment in Higher Education,” appears in the International Journal of AI in Pedagogy, Innovation, and Learning Futures. The article presents five vignettes exploring the use of generative AI in course design, student engagement, assessment, and institutional reporting. Together, the examples illustrate a shift from isolated experimentation with AI toward more intentional and integrated approaches to teaching and learning. The authors emphasize the importance of clearly defining how and when AI is used while preserving human judgment, reflection, and evaluation. The International Journal of AI in Pedagogy, Innovation, and Learning Futures (IJAIPIL) is an open-access, peer-reviewed journal published by California State University, San Bernardino. The team’s work suggests that generative AI can serve not simply as a new educational tool, but as a catalyst for rethinking teaching, assessment, and evidence-gathering across higher education.
