Overview

Northeastern’s Graduate Certificate in Global Studies and International Relations program offers students exposure to the diverse field of global studies and the issues currently facing the international community.

Through a targeted curriculum, core courses provide a knowledge base about global issues and are combined with an elective that lets students focus on a specific area of interest. Further classwork is focused on the themes of transition and development in the global world.

Classroom learning is punctuated by Northeastern’s acclaimed Experiential Learning program, that gives students the ability to synthesize and transfer classroom learning to new, complex situations outside in real-world professional scenarios.

Program objectives

  • Specialized Knowledge: Incorporate foundational global and intercultural knowledge, theories, research methods, and approaches to investigate global issues
  • Broad and Integrative Knowledge: Frame and evaluate global challenges in international political, economic, security, or diplomatic areas in the selected region or concentration.
  • Applied and Collaborative Learning: Apply the advanced knowledge gained in the field of global studies to a practical challenge, articulate in writing the insights gained from this experience, and assess approaches applicable to the challenge.
  • Civic and Global Learning: Assess and develop a position on a contemporary social issue from a socio-historical perspective and from multiple stakeholder viewpoints.
